Large variety of shapes

A large variety of shapes and very different degrees of deformation could be achieved by rotary swaging. The possibilities are far more numerous than with most other cold forming processes. The examples below therefore only show some of the typical geometries (see Diagram 1).

Diagram 1: Range of shapes produced by rotary swaging

Diagram 2: Internal contour produced by rotary swaging. By using appropriate mandrels when forming the outside diameter, complex and high-precision internal contours are formed.

Diagram 3: Internal profile produced by rotary swaging. For internal profiles such as serrations or involute splines, rotary swaging is superior to conventional processes from the point of view of consistency of shape and dimensions or die life. The designer has greater freedom in workpiece design, since even internal splines can be formed on tapering workpieces or in blind holes.

Diagram 4: Pressure-tight rotary swaged shapes. Workpieces can be closed up pressure-tight during rotary swaging.

Diagram 5: Reduced middle section. The wall thickness will even increase or can be precisely adjusted by using mandrel.

Diagram 6: Wall thickness adjustment of weight. The course of the wall thickness can be adapted to the design or function of the workpiece. The design and weight of the workpiece are optimized in this way.

Diagram 7: External geometry produced by rotary swaged shapes. Sophisticated external geometries with a two flat, triangular, square or hexagonal profile can be chipless formed.

Diagram 8: Couplings due to rotary swaging. Rotary swaging enables force-fitted and positive-fitted couplings to be produced. Especially used for safety-related workpieces.

Diagram 9: Coupling profile produced by rotary swaging. Rotary swaging can also be used to produce complex coupling profiles for hose connections. The consequential “One Piece Design” guarantees optimum functionality.

Diagram 10: Ball-shaped workpiece ends by rotary swaging. Ball-shaped workpiece ends with very high surface quality can be produced especially if tubes are used.
