Rotary swaging: Lightweight construction and design flexibility
Overview
Design
The layout of a rotary swaging unit.
Rotary swaging unit and Machine Bed
The different sizes of swaging units are enhanced by a machine bed and infeed and transfer / automation system. Its design ensures rigidity and hence the precision of the system. Dampers prevent the transfer of oscillations to the floor of the building.
Infeed and clamping equipment
The design of the Felss infeed units provides a high level of rigidity and rapid acceleration of the unit.
Mandrel equipment
The mandrel equipment is used to map the internal geometry of a workpiece. The mandrel is on bearings and therefore rotates with the workpiece during swaging.
Automation and Transfer system
Automation: Different levels of automation are available – from the pedestal machine with manual infeed via single-station, semi-automatic machines to multi-station, fully automatic transfer systems.
Transfer system: The Felss transfer system unloads the magazine system on the infeed side, transports the workpiece from station to station and loads the magazine system on the outfeed side.
Intermediate stations and control
These stations half the transfer distance, thereby reducing the cycle time. Space-saving and efficiently important functions such as testing, 180-degree turn-around or smaller work units can also be integrated. Felss machines are equipped with programmable logic controller (PLC) or computerized numerical control (CNC). Felss has developed its own graphical user interface. This also significantly simplifies the numerical control (NC) of multi-axial systems.
