Better resource efficiency: A sun gear shaft made on Felss NC systems

Felss took a new approach to the production of a sun gear shaft by working closely with the customer during the design phase. This proved a key prerequisite to the product's success.

Dynamic success story
Since 2010, China is the largest automotive market in the world – based on the number of cars sold. Experts are predicting that it is only a matter of time before it is also the world’s largest manufacturer. Many production centers are being planned. The necessary supply parts therefore also need to be manufactured in larger quantities in China. Economists call this associated indicator, the “Localization rate”. According to current analyses carried out by management consultants at Roland Berger, it should increase by three to five percent every year in China. The dynamic growth processes that this then initiates within the supply companies, can be seen through the example of Felss Rotaform.

Flexibility decides

Innovative and flexible production solutions are in great demand in the rapidly growing Chinese car market. Production planners at Felss Rotaform China have adapted to this challenge – for instance with a production that deliberately dispenses with unnecessarily complicated automation solutions whilst at the same time, promotes the perfect training of employees. Even the quality benefits from this approach: In spite of the ever increasing production quantities, there are virtually no faulty parts.

Manufacturing components in China – with Felss Rotaform

In 2010, China became the world's largest automobile market based on the number of cars sold. Felss in China is growing rapidly in tandem with the automotive sector. Demand is especially high for innovative and flexible production solutions.

“We’re opening up new possibilities to the user”
The development in automobile manufacturing seems to actually contradict itself: Whilst the number of production sites continues to rise, the demand for accuracy and reproducible production processes is also increasing – all within a global network. What challenges does this pose to the highly specialized machine manufacturer? Winfried Richter, Managing Director of Felss, explains in an interview why the new Aximus range provides the answers.

“Rotary swaging benefits many sectors”
With the cold forming processes of rotary swaging or axial forming, many experts think especially of steering rods, drive shafts and safety elements for the car. What are the other applications? – A conversation with Andrew Rush, Production Manager at Felss Rotaform US about the possibilities of the Felss technologies in other sectors.

Weight-loss program for E-bikes

A technical transformation is taking place in the motorcycle industry: Electromobility is becoming increasingly important. A larger number of motorcycles that are fitted with electric motors could soon be hitting the roads. The rotary swaging technology from Felss is opening up new possibilities.

Lighter: A front axle for a motorcycle maker

In the manufacture of a motorcycle front axle, rotary swaging (a non-cutting method), combined with optimized use of raw materials, has not only brought down the costs of the finished axle significantly, it has reduced the weight, too.
Projects
Better resource efficiency: Steering spindles for ZF

Felss produces steering spindles for ZF; these are made from just a single tube. The outside diameter is rotary-swaged whereas the inside geometry is created by a mandrel.
Projects
Lighter: Steering shafts for an automotive component supplier

Many of the automobiles rolling off production lines in Europe are fitted with rotary-swaged steering shafts. Felss is constantly refining this manufacturing method. The outcome: We've succeeded in cutting the weight of a lightweight shaft by another 30 percent.
Projects
Stronger: Crash tubes for ZF steering systems

Crash tubes are critical components that need to satisfy rigorous safety requirements. Felss works closely with customers when developing and manufacturing complex elements for steering columns and bumpers.

Better resource efficiency: An input hub for an automaker

The input hub for a double-clutch transmission is a component with internal and external toothing and a complex overall geometry. Felss introduced a faster, more precise and simpler process to streamline the axial forming method used to make it.
