Since 2010, China is the largest automotive market in the world – based on the number of cars sold. Experts are predicting that it is only a matter of time before it is also the world’s largest manufacturer. Many production centers are being planned. The necessary supply parts therefore also need to be manufactured in larger quantities in China. Economists call this associated indicator, the “Localization rate”. According to current analyses carried out by management consultants at Roland Berger, it should increase by three to five percent every year in China. The dynamic growth processes that this then initiates within the supply companies, can be seen through the example of Felss Rotaform.

Front axle

Lower cost and lighter weight, without compromising stability - those were the demands that a renowned motorcycle maker placed on Felss Rotaform US when the manufacture of the front axles was redesigned. Since 2006 more than 5000 blanks per week have been shaped using the rotary swaging process and introduced into the production process. Manufacture without cutting and optimised use of raw materials not only cuts the cost of the component considerably; its weight is also reduced as a result.

A technical transformation is taking place in the motorcycle industry: Electromobility is becoming increasingly important. A larger number of motorcycles that are fitted with electric motors could soon be hitting the roads. The rotary swaging technology from Felss is opening up new possibilities.

The worldwide sales of motorized two-wheelers collapsed as a result of the economic crisis in 2008. Figures have only started to rise since 2011. Development has also been interesting for Felss: A number of components for motorcycles, scooters and Co. can be produced extremely efficiently and easily using the Group’s processes.

Felss produces steering spindles for ZF; these are made from just a single tube. The outside diameter is rotary-swaged whereas the inside geometry is created by a mandrel.
